I bought myself flowers this year, and you know what, I LOVED it. No shame in treating yourself. I get so frustrated when my girl friends let men dictate their lives. Throughout the last year I’ve learned that finding your own happiness will attract positive energy. If you’re not content with yourself, you’ll attract negative energy. Stop thinking that someone else is going to bring you something that you can’t find yourself. My mom laughs because I always call her from the store, debating whether or not to buy something big (like a watch or jacket) and I ALWAYS, without fail, justify it by saying “I’m treating myself”. I have to tell you, buying something for yourself is insanely more gratifying than being given it.
This Valentine’s Day, treat yourself, whatever that may look like. Buy yourself a massage. Grab a handful of roses and put them on your nightstand. Get those earrings you’ve been eyeing. Take a bubble bath with good wine and a good book.
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and trying to look cute in this icky cold weather is always a challenge! My favorite date night combo is a black body con dress with a huge faux fur coat, which you’ll inevitably take off in the restaurant, letting you show some skin… sorry dad. My exact coat is 7 For All Mankind, which is unfortunately sold out everywhere. I linked a few alternative coats that will help you rock this look just as well.
I took these pictures right when I had started BBG and I can already tell a huge difference in my arms and legs from then to now. It’s crazy, you guys! I really want everyone to give this program a try because I know you’ll come to love the results. I’m in the middle of week five, it’s super challenging, but I’m just now seeing the work pay off, and now it’s all worth it.
I’m really digging this street style look, and you’re going to be digging the price of these pants and the bag.
I’m all about the palazzo pant trend, have them in 5 colors, and these are my newest addition to the collection. I love the color combo and I think the sweater brings the full look together effortlessly.
This Monday I started week 5 of my BBG workout program. I’m still loving the structure and at this point I can see the biggest changes in my arms. My friend was in town this weekend and I forced her to join me for a full body Friday circuit session, she loved it! I’ll continue to post about the program and my results through my Instagram stories. Make sure to follow along!
In college I was monogram OBSESSED, ask any of my friends and they’ll probably laugh. I monogrammed everything and wore HUGE bows in my hair 24/7. My college bestie actually had a ton of Jon Hart stuff, so that’s when I first fell in love with their brand. I’m pretty sure she still uses her pieces from college today, I’ve never seen a bag last so long.
As I get older I’m less into monogramming everything, but I’ve always kept my Jon Hart pieces because they’re classic. I love how simple the monogram is and the quality of the material allows the pieces to hold up for years. I’ve had my makeup bag from them for the past six years, and you know how hard girls are on their makeup bags… mine’s still in great condition!
The rose color, same as my bag, is brand spanking new and hint-hint to you boys out there, anything from the rose line would make a perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Jon Hart makes everything from suitcases to clear bags you can bring to sports arenas (there’s that new sports venue rule where bags have to be clear). They also have a full mens collection if you’re stuck on what to get your guy for V-Day.
This is a question I get asked every other day through Instagram, and while each picture edits slightly different, I tend to use somewhat of the same methods every time. Bloggers are all about keeping their feeds in sync, some keep all of their pics bright, while others dig vintage vibes. I try to keep my pictures in an orange vibe with a little piece of that vintage vibe. I hate when pictures look too clear or professional. This is my preference, but I do recommend keeping a flow and consistent style when editing your Instagram pictures if you’re working to get into the blogging sphere.
Here’s what the picture looked like fresh off my Canon Rebel T5i camera.
I shoot (well technically Riley does) in manual, so my pictures are pretty clear and well lit prior to editing. This is step by step of how I got my final Instagram picture.
I always start editing in the app Facetune 2
Click the filter icon and scroll over to the Gossip set of filters, I use all of the Gossip filters, so each time I click around and see which one works best for coloring. For this look I chose GS3 and left it at 50%- Facetune 2
The only other tab I use on Facetune 2 is the retouch tab, although I use it for different reasons than you’d expect. The whiten tab is great for whitening backgrounds, or for example the snow, like I did here. The details tab is good for running over your hair to create a texturized look- Facetune 2
Once I’m done filtering in Facetune 2 I save the picture and then move over to VSCO
Once in VSCO I may re-filter the picture through the Legacy filters, which I purchased. I only use Legacy filter #6 and for this picture I put it up to 5.0- VSCO
I always sharpen my pictures to the fullest, 12.0- VSCO
Another go-to is the warmth tool, which I put up to 4.0- VSCO
Sometimes I tint my pictures towards the right, creates a pink vibe, but I didn’t use that for this picture- VSCO
ALWAYS grain my pictures, for this picture I went up to 3.2- VSCO
This is it for VSCO so I save the picture and now move over to Instagram for the few final steps
Once on Instagram I put the sharpen up to 100, like I said, I love sharpened pictures- IG
I then play around with shadows, for this one I put the shadows up to 2- IG
I love the color icon, I always click the shadows side of the color icon and put it on the second color from the left- orange, and depending on this picture I play around with how much to use, for this one I put it up to 11- IG
Structure is one that I only use once in a while, for this I put it up to 5- IG
Back to the warmth tool for a little more color, I put it up to 5 for this one- IG
That’s it! Ha ha, I act like it was a simple process… it’s always a challenge. I will usually edit the same picture 2-3 times and then see which finished product I like best.
**Here’s me right after shooting these pictures, fully bundled up in my coat with numb hands**
This dress will be perfect once temps are back in the 50’s thanks to the thick material and long sleeves. I saw a dress almost identical to this at Free People last week so when I found this one for under $35 I jumped on it. For reference, I’m wearing size small and the length isn’t too short.
Many bloggers are participating in this fun thread through Instagram stories where they’re sharing 5 things you probably don’t know about them. I figured I’d share some facts with you guys that you may not know about me.
I’m deathly afraid of the dark. If I’m sleeping alone I leave the tv on all night, looping friends.
In high school I worked for Sea World as a pearl diver, where I’d swim in a huge tank and get oysters from the bottom for guests to purchase. Each oyster had a pearl inside.
I’ve never had a glass of milk. I don’t ever drink milk except for in my coffee and lightly on cereal, although I rarely eat cereal.
I had a convertible red VW beetle in college.
I used to spell my nickname Maddy, but changed it to Madi when I started the blog- just thought it looked cuter.
My obsession with turtlenecks continues on… This outfit had me feeling like I was grabbing a quick coffee while on break from my super intense and super chic job at Vogue. In reality, I wore this look after working from the couch all day in my robe. Whatever. Fake it till you make it.
I’m really into anything camel this winter, I just feel like it’s such a classy color. I also feel like every girl should own a camel coat and camel skirt. You will feel chic wearing them, trust me. This skirt won’t break the bank, but the quality will say otherwise. Also, these boots are from the same site as this skirt and they are really well made designer dupes, they come in tan as well.
This weekend my friends were in town and we had the best time! Here’s where we ate/drank in DC, I highly suggest each place:
Le Diplomate (great go-to for a nicer meal)
Ambar (great bottomless brunch special)
Two Birds One Stone (craft cocktails)
My apartment** (best drink spot in town, will leave you very drunk and happy)
There were lots of bars in the mix… too many to list
First post of 2018! This was long overdue, but the beginning of January has been insane for me. I spent the holidays in California, then I headed back to Orlando for two weeks to spend time home. I’m finally back in DC, but to say I’m settled in would be a joke… my Christmas tree is still up in my apartment and I’ve got 10+ boxes sitting in a corner from blog packages. I’m slowly trying to organize my life again, but it’s a process.
If you follow me on Instagram, which you shoulddddd, you’ve seen me talking a lot about BBG lately. If you’re in the dark on this whole BBG situation CLICK HERE to read a full post I did on the program and my last experience. I’m in week 2 and it’s still kicking my butt. I can’t sit today or walk up stairs… I’ll be talking a lot more fitness this year, per readers requests, and BBG is going to be a big part of that. Excited to start showing you guys more of my health routine!
I threw this look together in less than five minutes and I’m kind of obsessed. I got a lot of comments on this skirt and the BEST part is that this is a skort!! The back looks like normal denim shorts. If you’re wondering about the sizing on this, I’m wearing the UK 8, the site has a full size chart that converts UK to US sizing, so make sure to check that out before ordering.
